How We Picked the Finalists:

We solicited nominations through www.dmagazine.com, plus we threw in our own candidates. After looking through hundreds of nominations, the D Magazine editors narrowed down the pool to 25 semi-finalists. We brought them in for face-to-face interviews, then narrowed down the list to the 20 finalists you see here.

Name: Norah Meier
Age: 26
Occupation: Account Manager, Central Freight Lines

Why She’s a Finalist: Meier is saving lost and unwanted pets one stray at a time. After picking up two homeless dogs and having little luck at local shelters, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She started an animal rescue group on Facebook (Dallas Strays and Rescue) where she works to find foster and permanent homes for local strays. She also uses her own money to finance the rehab and veterinarian treatments these pets often need. When she’s not performing pet superhero duties, she loves dining at Mia’s and Eatzi’s, getting treatments at Aqua Medical Spa, and convincing companies to use Central Freight Lines services. After all, the lady has to make money—it’s her dream to have her own shelter one day.
