Why She’s a Finalist: Medlen was born and raised in Dallas. She went to Ursuline and graduated from SMU—and she’s never felt the need to pull up stakes and move elsewhere. “There’s so much to do here,” she says. “We don’t have the ocean or mountains, but we have great exhibits at the Nasher, shopping, and restaurants.” The petite beauty maintains that eating is one of her favorite hobbies and cites Nobu, Coast, and Al Biernat’s as a few of her favorites. Luckily, Medlen also enjoys working out—she was a dancer for 17 years—because she’s in fine form for the upcoming Miss Texas-USA pageant. But Medlen is more than just a pretty face. Her job allows her to help leukemia patients on a regular basis, whether she’s answering questions about benefits, lending an ear, or organizing free family photo shoots. “I’ll do anything I can do to help them forget about what’s going on in their lives for a minute,” she says.
