Why She’s a Semifinalist: This intrepid Fox 4 News anchor and reporter covers everything from breaking news to personal stories, but it’s traveling that really has her heart. She was born in San Antonio, college-educated at Brown University in Rhode Island, and worked in New York before taking off to spend time in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Cuba. She even did a short stint as a tour guide for vacationers heading to Spain, Portugal, France, Hawaii, and New York. Interestingly, Dallas is her city of choice. “Dallas really is the best place I’ve lived so far,” she says. “Dallas has it all.” In her limited spare time she volunteers a couple hours each week for Education in Freedom at North Dallas High School, helping students with college essays, applying for financial aid, and filling out college applications.
Fun Fact: Solis was recently scuba certified during a 16-day trip to Thailand.

How We Picked The Semifinalists: We solicited nominations through www.dmagazine.com, plus we threw in our own candidates. After looking through hundreds of nominations, and interviewing dozens of women, D Magazine editors narrowed the pool down to 20 semifinalists.
