Why She’s a Semifinalist: Knowing that she has a prized seat at the table of Modern Luxury editors may lead to some assumptions about who Dabbakeh is: stylish, in the know, a girl about town. And, sure, she’s all those things, but she’s also downright hilarious and shockingly down-to-earth. “Don’t ask me if I think your dress is cute if you don’t want honesty,” she says. Her social life is made up of time with girlfriends (preferably with wine around the TV), her newfound passion for karaoke (she doesn’t sing, just eggs others on) and occasionally a night of dancing. “You haven’t had a good night until you’ve broken a heel,” she says. She’s also, admittedly, a fan of the gym. “I secretly like working out even though I pretend I don’t.”
Fun Fact: Dabbakeh speaks Arabic fluently. Both parents are Palestinian, one from Palestine and the other from Jordan, where she lived with her family for five years after growing up in Chicago.

How We Picked The Semifinalists: We solicited nominations through www.dmagazine.com, plus we threw in our own candidates. After looking through hundreds of nominations, and interviewing dozens of women, D Magazine editors narrowed the pool down to 20 semifinalists.
