How We Picked the Finalists:
We solicited nominations through www.dmagazine.com, plus we threw in our own candidates. After looking through hundreds of nominations, and interviewing dozens of women, D Magazine editors narrowed the pool down to 20 semifinalists.

Why She's a Semifinalist: If our kids were taking drama class, we’d want them in Morgana Wilborn’s class, where goals include teaching kids to “know their worth” and “live outside of the box.” Wilborn, who studied theater and alternative education at UNT, teaches inner city middle schoolers in South Dallas, and says it’s both fun and challenging. “It’s the hardest job I’ve ever had, and I love it,” she says. We’re sure teaching keeps her busy enough, but she’s also currently finishing up her masters and runs a photography business on the side. When she finally gets some downtime (and a moment of peace and quiet), she spends it with her dog in her Diva Cave (aka: her bedroom), relaxing and watching movies.
