We solicited nominations through www.dmagazine.com, plus we threw in our own candidates. After looking through hundreds of nominations, and interviewing dozens of women, D Magazine editors narrowed the pool down to 20 semifinalists.

Why She's a Semifinalist: Give her a few minutes to gush about her daughter, and you’ll see that she’s beautiful on the inside too. As a model, she’s worn premier fashion labels and mingled with the most talented people in town, but she’s a self-professed homebody, preferring to spend time her daughter watching movies, reading books, and cooking healthy dishes (although she can’t live without chocolate). When you do catch her out, she’s probably playing sand volleyball or mixing videos to a DJ’s tunes at clubs for music production company Smooth Criminal. If you ask what’s on her bucket list, she prefers not to rattle off her ambitions. “Let’s just see where the wind blows me,” she says. “I try to enjoy all the experiences and opportunities that I do get.”
